Nitrile rubber is known for excellent resistance to petroleum oils, mineral oils, vegetable oils, abrasion, many acids and water. Also called NBR rubber, Buna N and Perbunan, nitrile is primarily specified where oil resistance is required. Preferred has significant experience in nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) compounding.

Nitrile rubber properties

Nitrile butadiene rubber has good elongation properties, good to excellent compression set resistance, adequate resilience and tensile strength but poor flame and steam resistance.

NBR compound applications

NBR applications include automotive and aeronautical fuel, hydraulic and oil hoses, seals, and grommets. Nitrile butadiene is also used to create oil and gas exploration and recovery parts, molded goods, footwear, printing rollers, cable jacketing and non-latex gloves.

Nitrile rubber can also be hydrogenated (HNBR) or carboxylated. Carboxylated nitrile rubber has higher tear and abrasion resistance as well as higher compression set.

Preferred can supply nitrile compounds in sponge, sheets, slab, strip and calendared. To meet customer needs for specific performance metrics, we are able to blend NBR with other polymers including PVC.
