Preferred to add high performance elastomer compounding in Mexico

SAN LUIS POTOSI, MEXICO – To meet demand for FKM, HNBR, ECO and other high performance elastomer (HPE) compounds, Preferred Compounding de Mexico will bring online by summer a 75-liter tilt mixer, the first of its kind in Mexico dedicated to specialty elastomers.

The new Kneader Machinery KD75-250 tangential tilt mixer will be installed in the 57,000 square-foot building the company leased Jan. 1 adjacent to its main facility in San Luis Potosi. The mixer will be also used for color compounds.

Preferred Compounding acquires Trostel Ltd.

Trostel is comprised of two divisions, the custom rubber compounding business Trostel Compounding and the value-added specialty molding business Trostel Molding. The acquisition of Trostel expands Preferred’s mixing capacity, geographic reach and high-performance compounding capabilities. Terms were not announced for the deal, which is effective December 1.

Trostel has significant expertise in compounding and molding FKM, HNBR and other high-performance elastomers. Preferred Compounding adds 70 percent more space in Mexico

Preferred Compounding de Mexico new rubber compounding warehouse and production facility

SAN LUIS POTOSI, MEXICO –Preferred Compounding’s mixing operation in central Mexico is increasing production and warehousing space by more than 70 percent to 137,000 square feet. The custom compounder with four North American locations has signed a ten-year lease effective Jan. 1 on a building immediately adjacent to its San Luis Potosi facility.

Last year Preferred Compounding de Mexico added 15,000 square feet of inventory and office space and brought online a second Farrel F270 black mixer.

Growth requires Preferred Compounding to plan separate headquarters

BARBERTON, OHIO – After more than three decades in the same location, continuing growth means Preferred Compounding’s Barberton facility can no longer accommodate headquarters staff and local mixing operations and technical staff.

The company has signed a lease for a floor of office space 15 minutes away in Copley and plans to move management, commercial, and finance staff there by the end of the year.

“We’ve grown into the second largest custom rubber compounder in North America with compounding operations in Ohio, Georgia, Tennessee and Mexico,” said Ken Bloom, president and CEO. “In addition, as the leading value-added compounder, we’ve significantly increased our technical, quality and production staff at each location over the past decade to support our customers. We are simply out of room in Barberton.”

Preferred Compounding Doubles Rubber Mixing Capacity in Tennessee

BARBERTON, OHIO – Preferred Compounding has doubled capacity at its plant in Huntingdon, Tennessee, to meet increased demand for its high-quality custom compounds. This is the third major plant expansion in three years for the company, which is now the second largest custom compounder in North America.

A Farrel F-270 Tangential variable speed mixer began operation in Huntingdon February 1st, the second F-270 at the plant. A new in-line gear pump strainer will come online early in the second quarter.

Growth spurs Preferred Compounding sale to Audax Private Equity

Audax Group logoBARBERTON, OHIO – Boston-based Audax Private Equity has partnered with company management to acquire Preferred Compounding from Dallas private equity firm Wingate Partners, Preferred announced today. The Cleveland office of KeyBanc Capital Markets served as financial advisor to Preferred. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Preferred has grown into the second largest custom rubber compounder in North America since being acquired in December 2010 by Wingate and company managers. In addition to significantly outpacing the industry in the U.S., Preferred has acquired and twice expanded a mixing operation in Central Mexico.

SAN LUIS POTOSI, MEXICO –Custom compounder Preferred Compounding de Mexico is continuing to invest in equipment, people and space to stay ahead of strong demand at its facility in San Luis Potosi. The company has brought online a second Farrel F-270 black mixer and in-line gear pump strainer, begun construction on 15.000 square feet of inventory and office space and is hiring salaried and hourly employees.

Being nimble helps Preferred grow, Rubber and Plastics News reports

Performing like a small company has helped Preferred Compounding grow into the second largest custom rubber compounding in North America, says CEO and President Ken Bloom in an article published in June in Rubber and Plastics News.

“We’re nimble,” said Bloom. “There’s not a lot of bureaucracy here, so we respond and move very quickly. Yes, we’re a lot bigger than we were, but we’re fast … so I see us as a small company.”

Preferred Compounding de Mexico to Double Capacity

preferredmexicofront2BARBERTON, OHIO – Preferred Compounding will double capacity and employment at its plant in Central Mexico by the spring of 2015, the company announced today. Preferred’s Board of Directors approved capital for an expansion which will include a second Farrel F-270 Tangential variable speed mixer and an in-line gear pump strainer.

The announcement comes 16 months after commissioning of the first Farrel F-270 at the 66,000 square-foot plant in the city of San Luis Potosi and 24 months after Preferred purchased the operation from Iacp Jevsa of Barcelona, Spain in July of 2012.
